"The Shark Vs The House" Blackjack Poker Pastel Study | Willing Hands Portrait Painting Art
An original pastel painting from my Willing Hands series. Painting measures 9x12" on pastel paper, and was a study for a larger painting. Original artwork by Catherine LaPointe Vollmer. Painting can be matted and framed in black, with premium anti-glare glass. Colors may vary from monitor to monitor.
“Willing Hands” is a series of portraits focusing on hands at work. In this series I portray unique portraits of individuals, never showing their faces. I want to explore all the different ways we use our hands- for work, for leisure, for connecting with others. I have always been fascinated by hands as a vehicle for telling a story- not only do we talk with our hands, but our hands themselves reflect our life experiences through their individual physicality and character. Hands are a portrait of a life lived. This series tells the story of a multitude of moments that make up the richness of life, and the joy of living.
Framing tips for pastels:
- Frame behind glass, not acrylic or polystyrene. The static from plastic-type glazing will pull the pastel dust away from the paper.
- Pastels must not touch the glass, or they will smear. Use a mat or framing spacer.
- If matting, put some foam core or a spacer between the painting and the mat. This will prevent pastel dust from falling in front of the mat, discoloring it.
