Lake Michigan Dunes | Little Sable Lighthouse Vintage National Park Travel Poster | Great Lakes Art Print
Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America, and the only one located entirely within the United States. It is the second-largest of the Great Lakes by volume and the third-largest by surface area. Lake Michigan is shared, from west to east, by the U.S. states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. The word "Michigan" originally referred to the lake itself, and is believed to come from the Ojibwe word michi-gami meaning "great water". Lake Michigan is home to the largest dune system in the world associated with a freshwater lake.
Notable parks include Silver Lake Sand Dunes, Arcadia Dunes, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Indiana Dunes National Park is on the southern shore of Lake Michigan in Indiana. It has a string of sandy beaches, and trails through dunes, marshland, and jack pine forests. The Dune Succession Trail at West Beach has views of the Chicago skyline and the lake’s bird-rich wetland. The Little Sable Point Light is a lighthouse located south of Pentwater in the lower peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Little Sable Point is in Silver Lake State Park, close to Mears, Michigan. It is part of a Michigan State Park.
