The lake was named by the Erie people, a Native American people who lived along its southern shore. The tribal name "erie" is a shortened form of the Iroquoian word erielhonan, meaning "long tail". Lake Erie is the fourth-largest lake (by surface area) of the five Great Lakes in North America. It is the southernmost, shallowest, and smallest by volume of the Great Lakes. At its deepest point Lake Erie is 210 feet (64 metres) deep. Because of its shallowness, and in spite of being the warmest lake in the summer, it is generally the first to freeze in the winter. This poster features the Buffalo Main lighthouse. Situated on the International Boundary between Canada and the United States, Lake Erie's northern shore is the Canadian province of Ontario, with the U.S. states of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York on its western, southern and eastern shores. The main natural outflow from the lake is via the Niagara River. Original artwork by Catherine LaPointe Vollmer. Designed and printed in New York State. (Images have some watermarking texture to prevent AI scraping. Watermarks are not visible on physical products.) Listing is for print only, frame not included unless you choose the framed option- framed in a handmade-in-USA black frame, with plexi glazing- styles may vary. 11x17" posters printed on heavy linen paper for a vintage textured feel. 24x36" posters printed on semi-glossy poster paper, and will take additional time to print. Colors may vary due to monitor settings.
